YWCC(Young Women's Christian Council)WOMEN’S MINISTRY: A Brief History
(Formerly Sister’s Fellowship)
Even in the infancy of the ministry of Apostolic Faith Temple, God had purposed that the women of AFT would join themselves in a fellowship supporting and catering to the special spiritual needs of women. In fulfilling this purpose, God birth the idea in Sister Denise Harmon on New Year’s Night 1989. She shared the inspiration that God had given her with Bishop Jordan. He, being a man of vision and progression, embraced the idea and gave his blessing.
The idea became a reality on the first Saturday in February 1989-- The beginning of Sisters Fellowship at AFT. Our theme for this kick-off meeting was“Love.” It was a beautiful sight to behold as the Sisters of AFT filled the basement of the old church. From that original meeting, the Fellowship went forward under the partnered leadership of Sister Denise Harmon and the late Sister Janet Smith. We also held our first Unity Weekend with Evangelist Olivia Mitchell of Rhema Christian Center as our speaker. Our theme was “Lord,I’m Available to You.” God richly blessed us that year through outside Ministries, as well as through the labors of our own sisters. Burdens were shared and lifted, yokes were broken, callings confirmed, and families were blessed as the women of God came together in agreement.
In doing so came a new direction and a new name—Women’s Ministries.
On January 1, 2001 Minister Karen Traylor became president over “Women’s
Ministries” done an excellent in her work. Janurary 2003,the Lord took
the Women’s Ministry into a different direction under the Leadership of
our First Lady Marta Jean Jordan. The Lord laid on the heart of the First Lady
chosen women of our assembly to work with her to work as an executive committee
rolled up their sleeves and began the work for the vision that the Lord gave
first Lady Jordan. In March 2003 the first annual “Lady’s Night
Out” retreat was held. We continue to hold the first Saturday of the month
as a time for the “Women of the Harvest” to have various outreach/evangelistic
endeavors. During the first weekend in November we will continue to fellowship
together for our annual Women’s Celebration Weekend”. Under the
leadership of our First Lady and the direction of the Lord we look forward to
the many outreach and evangelistic services.
